PIANO CONCERTO COMPETITION 2025

1st Prize for Ian’s performance of the 2nd movement of Mozart’s Concerto in A, KV 488. Collaborative artist: Dr. Songhwa Chae.

Mastery: when a student plays an accidental wrong note that is so *very* obviously wrong, there’s no hiding it, but keeps on going without hesitation or (obvious) frazzling.


Honorable Mention for Le Bin’s performance of Tarantellina from Concertino in A minor by Sibylle Kuder. Collaborative artist: Dr. Songhwa Chae.


 

Students are capable of so much more if given the chance, and time. Accidental wrong notes do happen, and I find it fascinating and informative to watch how a student reacts to the wrong note. Unless it’s a complete disaster or the student is visibly distraught, there is no need for teacher or parent to jump in and try to fix things. Beautiful example:
